Ziggy Marley was one of the early winners yesterday at the 56th annual Grammy Awards.
Marley won in the category of Best Reggae Album for his effort, Ziggy Marley In Concert (Tuff Gong Worldwide label).
In an interview with The Gleaner shortly after the announcement was made, Marley said, "We give thanks, it is an honour and a blessing. Much respect to the Recording Academy and the fans. We are looking forward to the release of my new record FLY RASTA."
Other nominees in the category for Best Reggae Album were, Beres Hammond's One Love, One Life (VP Records), Sizzla's The Messiah (VP Records), Sly & Robbie and The Jam Masters with Reggae Connection (K'z Records), and Snoop Lion's Reincarnated (RCA Records/Berhane Sound System/Boss Lady Ent/Vice/Mad Decent).
Albums by Beres Hammond, Sizzla, Ziggy Marley, Sly and Robbie & the Jam Masters and American rapper Snoop Lion have been nominated for the Best Reggae Album category at next year's Grammy Awards.
Nominations were announced Friday evening at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
The albums are One Love, One Life (Beres Hammond), The Messiah (Sizzla), Ziggy Marley in Concert (Ziggy Marley), Reggae Connection Sly and Robbie and the Jam Masters and Reincarnated by Snoop Lion.
Marley and Sly and Robbie have previously won the Best Reggae Album category.
The 56th annual Grammy Awards take place January 26 at the Nokia Theatre.
