Dennis Brown Concert Cancelled

THE Dennis Brown concert, scheduled for downtown Kingston this evening, has been postponed indefinitely. Charles Campbell, a spokesperson for the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA), one of the organisers for the event, said inadequate sponsorship forced the postponement. "We didn't realise the sponsorship funds needed. It's a free concert but a show of this nature needs sponsorship," Campbell told the Jamaica Observer. The concert has been held annually along Orange Steet by producer Trevor 'Leggo' Douglas since 2010. It attracts reggae's biggest names paying tribute to Brown, the proclaimed Crown Prince of Reggae, who died in July, 1999 at age 42. Brown, who was raised in the Orange Street area, would have turned 56 on February 1.
