Things are going well for Micah Pueschel. He’s in the middle of tour at a stop in Norfolk, Va., and couldn’t ask for anything more.
“The tour has been great,” he says. “It’s a great way to make a living.”
Pueschel is a member of the California-based reggae band Iration. The band, which includes Joseph Dickens, Adam Taylor, Micah Brown, Cayson Peterson and Joseph King, originally is from Hawaii.
It recently released its album “Hotting Up.” Pueschel says the band began working on the album in late 2014 for about four months. Compared to previous albums, Iration took its time in creating the new music – something that was welcomed by all the members.
“We worked with a different producer as well,” he says. “We also have Micah (Brown) in the band now. He wrote a lot for this record and it was great to collaborate with him on some songs.”
Iration also worked with producer and co-writer David Manzoor, Grammy Award-nominated mixer Mark Needham and engineer Will Brierre.
With its digital release in August, “Hotting Up” debuted at No. 13 on the iTunes overall albums chart and No. 1 on the Billboard reggae charts.
The nine-track album features the first single “Reelin,” which also raced up the reggae single charts.
“Being able to make music is something we’ve all wanted,” Pueschel says. “We are humbled when things like this happen. We never expect to have an album go to No. 1 on the charts. It’s always a surprise and yet validation for all of the hard work we put in.”
Pueschel says his writing process hasn’t changed much since the band’s inception. He says it all begins on the acoustic guitar.
“I hope that I’ve gotten better as a writer,” he says. “The more you work on something, the better it becomes. I always look to progressing with every song and album that we make. It’s important to keep moving forward in this business.”
