Think callaloo meets collard greens and jerk meets barbecue. Rhythm and Blues meets Reggae is a rich brew of R&B music fused with reggae. This unique event is a celebration of music and cooking from the tropical island of Jamaica, blended with those of the rural and urban city experience in the United States.
The feast of sound and flavor will take place on Sunday, July 8, at the Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Pkwy., Miramar.
Doors to the special concert open at 2 p.m., with show time starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for standing room; $35, $45, $55 for seating areas; and $75 for VIP. Children under 15 are admitted free to the standing room area only. In addItion to the designated seating area set up for concert viewing, patrons can opt to enjoy the good vibes from the VIP section, which includes free parking backstage, two free drinks, free hors d’oeuvres, and a private bar.
The day of cultural fusion will feature live performances from music sensations Jeffrey Osborne and Millie Jackson.
Jeffrey Osborne began his professional career in 1969 with a popular funk and soul group called “Love Men Ltd.” After 10 years with the band Osborne decided to pursue a solo career, which brought him five gold and platinum albums. In 1982, he recorded an album of duets with James Ingram and scored the international hit On the Wings of Love.
More than an entertainment legend, Jackson is the epitome of performance perfection onstage, and is deemed as an industry icon by her peers, as she has paved the way for many of today’s female artists.
Osborne and Jackson will be joined by acts such as Dorothy Moore, R&B’s new sensation J.R. Evan and Jamaican acts such as Singing Melody with his smooth, silky melodious voice, Ken Booth who has been doing rock steady music from the ’70s, and Nadine Sutherland.
South Florida's own Kashief Lindo will make his grand return to the Florida stage. The popular reggae musician, producer and songwriter will perform his latest hits, including songs from his reggae tribute album to pop great, Michael Jackson, called Remembering Michael Jackson.
Also appearing will be the incomparable Code Red Band. Miramar's own Winston Barnes and BET’s Comic View comedian, the ever hilarious Rayzor, will host the event.
The food and craft vendors will join in the transnational spirit, offering a diverse and delectable food spread for patrons to sample.
