Reggae and Dancehall Music

The dynamism between these two musical genres, which are being debated as to which one is the most popular and listened to in the country, has become a bone of contention among industry experts, in categorizing this years Ghana Music Awards 2014.
The arguments are that; the global trend of awarding in the two genres has always been put together, giving a better leverage as to how to measure the quality and popularity of the music.
Reggae artists like Rocky Dawuni and Blakk Rasta have put reggae songs from the country on international platform.
Though, there is so much tension as to who is the current dancehall king in Ghana, which has generated so many controversies among music followers, it would be worth listening to the concerns of critics of the industry.
The genre which is being listened to more is the dancehall music with massive airplays, whiles reggae trailsn by not having much nomination strength during the GMAs.
When the debate is further probed, it has become very important to note that most gospel songs which have enjoyed popularity in the country have been found to be in the mode of highlife or reggae, but yet are not included in the reggae or dancehall categories during music awards.
