Reggae Party With The Wailers in Plymouth

  • Written by

The WailersPlymouth, NH.  At 7:30pm on Saturday, March 31st The Flying Monkey is honored to present The Wailers.   Together with Bob Marley, the Wailers brought Reggae to the world stage, promoting peace through music.  The Wailers are widely known as the greatest living exponents of the Jamaican Reggae tradition performing today.   NH’s own Donkilo! Afro Funk Orchestra will open the night.  Tickets for this concert start at $35.
Reggae music has never stopped evolving, but for millions of people from around the world it’s still defined by the songs of Bob Marley and the Wailers. It’s been their heartbeat rhythms that have inspired so much of what’s followed since, as evidenced by the enduring popularity of the “one-drop” reggae sound. Through the decades The Wailers have completed innumerable tours, playing to an estimated 24 million people across the globe. They have also been the first reggae band to tour new territories on many occasions, including Africa and the Far East.

Today the anchor of the band is Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who in addition to being Marley’s most trusted lieutenant, played on countless other classic reggae hits throughout the seventies. The authenticity he brings to the Wailers’ sound is indisputable and yet today’s line-up combines old school know-how with lead vocals from one of Jamaica’s most exciting new singers. The Wailers now consist of seven (7) original members who recorded and/or toured with ‘Bob Marley and the Wailers’.
Says Family Man, "I am eager to take the spirit of rebel music that I was able to bring forth with my bred'ren Bob Marley, out on the road and across America. These are the times Bob sang about when he said, It takes a revolution to make a solution. We want to show the people that the Wailers are the band of the 99 percent. We want our music to be part of the solution. I am a resolutionary"
For this special "Revolution” tour, the Wailers will perform a themed show, much as they did when they performed the whole of the Exodus album onstage for that Album of the Century's Anniversary. Expect to hear inspiring, incendiary anthems delivered as only Family Man Barrett and the Wailers know how mainly because he actually wrote and played them on the records – ‘Revolution’, ‘Survival’ and ‘I Shot The Sherriff’ and many more of the songs that have inspired multiple generations around the world.
DONKILO! Afro Funk Orchestra has quickly made a name for themselves in New Hampshire with a distinct and unique new fusion of funk, jazz, Afro-beat, and West African rhythms, combining traditional instruments like the Fula flute, 10-string kamale n'goni and djembe, with drums, guitar, bass, sax and more. Donkilo! creates a sound that is fresh and daring, with live performances that transport audiences to previously unchartered musical territories. If the world class entertainment wasn’t enough, The Flying Monkey is revving up this event with a Caribbean theme, food and drink specials, and contests.   This party is sure to heat up Plymouth and kick off Spring!
The former Plymouth Theatre on Main Street in Plymouth, NH, the funky, 1920’s era playhouse was renovated in 2010 and updated with all the modern amenities of today’s state of the art live entertainment venue. What was previously a two-screen movie theater has been converted into one intimate performance hall. State of the Art Sound and Lighting was installed by renowned acoustic engineer Bill Blaine.  The venue boasts a unique seating layout including cabaret style table sections and bars on both the main floor and the balcony. Reserved table seating offers both food and beverage service in the main hall during performances, starting as early as an hour and a half before showtime.
Tickets for the The Wailers concert are on sale now for $35, and $45 for Premier seats. For tickets and more information on concerts and the Flying Monkey Performance Center, visit www.flyingmonkeynh.com or call 603-536-2551.
